Delhi Weather Update: IMD Forecasts Light Rainfall Today 23 Jan 2025

 

Delhi experienced overnight rainfall, with several areas of the national capital receiving showers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more light rain and cloudy conditions for the day on Thursday.

The rain began around 12:30 am in various parts of the city, with the Palam weather station registering 1.2 mm of rainfall.

The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 11.0Β°C, which is 3.5 degrees higher than the usual temperature for this time of year. Meanwhile, the air quality was classified as poor, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 264.

The IMD predicts that Thursday will see a cloudy sky and light rainfall, with temperatures expected to peak around 22Β°C.

The AQI categories are as follows: 0-50 (Good), 51-100 (Satisfactory), 101-200 (Moderate), 201-300 (Poor), 301-400 (Very Poor), and 401-500 (Severe).

Fog Disrupts Flight Operations in Delhi; Cold Wave Sweeps Northern India

Foggy conditions caused delays at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday morning, affecting several flights.

To protect the homeless from the severe winter chill, night shelters have been made available. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has set up 235 pagoda tents across various locations in the city.

In Uttar Pradesh, dense fog also affected Prayagraj, where thousands of pilgrims gathered at the Triveni Sangam for a holy dip. The temperature in Prayagraj was recorded at 12.8Β°C at 5:30 am.

Other areas such as Ayodhya also experienced a light layer of fog, with cold waves impacting the region.

Several parts of West Bengal and Odisha saw heavy fog, with stations like Sainthia Junction and areas in North 24 Parganas in West Bengal heavily fogged. Puri in Odisha also experienced thick fog, with cold waves continuing to affect the region.

In Kashmir, the cold wave persisted, and Srinagar recorded a temperature of -0.5Β°C at 5:30 am.

The IMD has also predicted the possibility of rain in Punjab, Haryana, Western UP, Delhi NCR, and northern Rajasthan on January 23.
