The Paris Olympics have been hit by unexpected weather challenges, leading to the postponement of the men’s skateboarding street competition. Originally scheduled for Saturday, July 27, the event has now been pushed back by 48 hours to Monday, July 29, due to persistent heavy rain.

Weather Woes at the Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony, a grand spectacle on the River Seine, was marred by continuous rainfall. The three-and-a-half-hour event featured 85 boats carrying nearly 7,000 athletes from 205 countries. Despite the rain, the ceremony proceeded, showcasing the vibrant spirit of the Olympics. However, the French meteorological office issued flood warnings for several areas around Paris, adding to the concerns.
Impact on Events
While the Rugby Sevens, handball, and football events commenced before the main ceremony, the skateboarding street men’s preliminaries and finals faced delays. The preliminaries will now start at 11 am BST on Monday, followed by the finals at 4 pm BST.
Other events like eventing dressage at Versailles and indoor highlights such as gymnastics, diving, and swimming remain unaffected by the weather. Tennis at Roland Garros is expected to continue, albeit with potential delays if the rain persists. The main courts are covered, which might allow the competition to proceed without significant interruptions.

On Friday evening, Tom Daley and Helen Glover were honored as Team Great Britain’s flag bearers. They, along with 37 other British athletes, participated in a memorable boat journey down the Seine, offering a picturesque view of Paris’s iconic landmarks.
